The Pacific Palisades fire – the most destructive in Los Angeles history – killed 12 people and destroyed more than 6,800 structures earlier this year, turning swaths of western Los Angeles into a wasteland.
To the east, in Altadena, where the Eaton fire killed 19 people, the tightknit community is struggling to rebuild almost a year after the disaster.
